An Immich library outgrows its drives sooner or later. Convert the originals in place to JPEG XL, AVIF or HEIC and the videos to AV1 to cut storage by 20-50%, with albums and metadata carried over.
Needs Immich already running. It can't be used on its own.

In upload mode it does, but only after the converted asset has been uploaded and checked. The original lands in Immich's trash and stays there for 30 days. Local-only mode writes the converted files to disk and leaves Immich untouched. Back up the library before a full run and start with one album.
Images come out as JPEG XL, HEIC or AVIF, and videos as AV1 in an MP4 container. It reads JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, TIFF, GIF and BMP images, and MP4, MOV and MKV video. A JPEG repacked as JPEG XL keeps the original pixels, so nothing is lost.
Paste the Immich URL and an API key on the Settings page. The URL needs the /api suffix, for example https://photos.example.com/api. The key needs asset read and asset upload permissions; a read-only key passes the connection test and then fails on upload.
More apps in Photos.
Bring Apple Photos, Google Photos and camera files into one dated library on your own disk, then review each calendar date across every year.
Ditch Google Photos for a FOSS library with automatic phone backup and facial recognition, all kept on your own hardware.
Manage your photo library with machine learning, from automatic face recognition and object detection to semantic search.
Browse, organise and share photos and videos privately, with automatic labels and face recognition.
Ente Photos backs up your phone's photos to a server you host and keeps the library end-to-end encrypted. One quickstart script starts the server, web app, Postgres and object storage in Docker.
